Sister Therese Howard, M.M.

Sister Therese Howard, M.M., who served as a physician and in family life education in Hong Kong, died Nov. 22 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 94.

Sister Therese served in Hong Kong for 30 years ending in the mid-1990s. She served there as a doctor at Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital, and was involved in family life education. She was a member of the Catholic Marriage Advisory Council and a Natural Family Planning instructor in Hong Kong, and also helped to found the Pro-Life Action Association.

,Sister Therese then returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center where she worked for eight years in the communications department before retiring in 2003. Early on, she taught at Maryknoll Teachers College.

Born in Janesville, Wis., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1956 and made final vows in 1965. She earned a doctorate of medicine from St. Louis University, where she attended medical school.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 2 at Annunciation Chapel at the Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was at the Maryknoll Sisters cemetery.
