St. Nicholas Project

Cardinal Dolan, through archdiocesan Catholic Charities’ St. Nicholas Project, joined 300 volunteers shopping for items of necessity for New York’s most vulnerable families Dec. 14 at Kmart Astor Place in lower Manhattan. Each volunteer received a profile of a family to shop for and a maximum budget. They could also choose to shop for multiple families, and all items were purchased with donated funds. The shopping day, which included the purchase of winter coats, sweaters and hats, will benefit several hundred families in New York. In addition to providing gifts for families that otherwise could not afford a Christmas gift exchange, the St. Nicholas Project provides critical social services to families in need throughout the year, including nutritious meals, job readiness training, housing assistance, and immigration and refugee resettlement counseling.
