Work of Mercy

Posted

It’s always touching to see Cardinal Dolan visiting prisons and dealing with the inmates, as he did during Holy Week when he went to Sing Sing (CNY, March 29). One can only wonder what kinds of homes and parents these inmates had. I assume that many had parents who were abusive, addicted or absent. I assume too that many had poor educations and had problems finding jobs. I’m sure that some belonged to gangs and had “friends” with similar problems. It’s all so sad, so many wasted lives.

I’m sure that Cardinal Dolan’s presence (and probably his arm around the inmates’ shoulders) brings a moment of happiness and kindness into their lives.

Kudos to Cardinal Dolan for performing this corporal work of mercy that most of us would never consider doing.
