NEW PRESIDENT—Father Brian J. Shanley, O.P., was formally invested as president of St. John’s University during a Sept. 24 ceremony at Carnesecca Arena on the university’s main campus in Queens. His tenure as St. John’s president began Feb. 1. Father Shanley is the 18th president in the Vincentian-run university’s 151-year history. A Dominican priest, he served for 15 years as president of Providence College in Rhode Island before coming to St. John’s.
