Deacon Robert Clemens

Deacon Robert Clemens, who served at St. Bartholomew's parish in Yonkers for 34 years, died Sept. 17. He was 89.

Deacon Clemens was assigned to St. Bartholomew after his ordination by Cardinal John O’Connor at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 14, 1988. At St. Bartholomew, he assisted at Mass, did sacramental preparation, trained altar servers and Eucharistic ministers, and visited the homebound.

Born in Yonkers, he was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for two years. He worked as a purchasing agent in the business office for the Yonkers Board of Education.

His children, Gregory, Jeffery, Kathleen Weissman, and Carolyn Brazil; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter survive him. His wife of 61 years, Helen, predeceased him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 22 at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
