Father Richard S. Czajkowski, M.M., who was a missioner to Japan for 37 years, died Sept. 6 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 88.

Father Czajkowski served in Japan, 2017, 2005-2014, 1991-2001 and 1961-1978, in roles such as parish pastor and assistant chaplain for the U.S. Navy. He also served in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Washington, D.C.

Born in the Bronx, the graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School entered the Maryknoll Mission Society in 1952. He professed final vows in 1960 and was ordained a priest in 1961.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 13 in Queen of Apostles Chapel at the Maryknoll Society Center, Ossining. Burial was in a family plot in Rockland County.
