In contrast to the Catholic official response to the Supreme Court’s overturn of its Roe v. Wade decision was the desultory commentary on the court's New York gun law ruling. I find troubling your term to describe the reaction of the New York Catholic Conference as "troubled." A stronger response given the historical and citizen support of the New York law, as noted by the Conference, would have been a more Catholic pro-life reaction. I write this on July 4 after reports of another mass shooting using a weapon of war happened in Illinois. When will our bishops condemn the unfettered possession of military weapons by civilians as not consonant with a pro-life policy?
